Pricing
Pricing in Translation
A few important factors are taken into account when pricing the translation. First of all, as in different markets, translation prices are basically determined by supply and demand. The higher the number of translators who translate into a single language, the lower the translation fees for that language. Similarly, the higher the demand for translation related to a language, the higher the price. For example, since there are many translators in English, translation fees for this language remain low compared to others, while translation prices for Chinese are relatively higher. Written translation prices are low, while interpreting prices are high.
Another factor for pricing in translation is the content of the text. For example, medical texts will be more expensive than general texts, as they will require expertise and field knowledge as well as foreign language knowledge.
How Are Fees Calculated in Written Translations?
In the translation industry, unit prices are determined in Turkish lira per word or per thousand characters. The common usage is "Thousand characters x Turkish Lira".
In oral translation, the prices are determined as a daily fee in Turkish Lira.
A thousand characters without spaces are calculated as one page. Character counting can be done thanks to the Tools / Word Count Word Count / Character (without spaces) option in Microsoft Word.
In translation, works with less than one thousand characters without spaces in the pricing scope are considered as one page.
Nihai tercüme hizmeti ücretleri her bin karakterle birim fiyatının çarpılması neticesinde elde edilmektedir. Tercüme sektöründe KDV yüzdesi %18 olduğu için, bu rakama KDV ilave edilmektedir.
Some of the translation offices are based on the source language, while some of the companies are based on the target language. The common practice is to multiply the unit price by the number of characters in the target language, i.e. the final text.
Pricing in Simultaneous Translation
Although pricing is higher in simultaneous interpretation, a minimum of two translators are assigned for simultaneous interpretation needs exceeding one hour. Simultaneous interpretation processes are the simultaneous interpretation of the interpreter with the speaker through the sound system in a cabin. The fees for this type of translation also vary greatly on the basis of languages. The most important reason for these differences is that the number of interpreters who can do simultaneous interpreting in that language is low or high.
Calculation of Academic Translation Prices
Academic translations are a field that is generally needed by academics working at universities. This field, which is the subject of research, requires a specialization by its nature. For this reason, this area of expertise should be taken into account when pricing academic translation, and expert translators who can translate at a professional level should be preferred. The unit prices of academic translators vary depending on the nature of the job.
Pricing in Notary Sworn Translation
While pricing the sworn translation, the approval fees received from the notary are calculated depending on the number of texts in the document and the number of pages.
While calculating the translation fees of standard documents such as passports, diplomas, student certificates, identity cards, marriage certificates, and birth certificates, the standard base price was not determined. While calculating the fee at the notary publics, a receipt is charged for approximately one thousand characters, that is, 50 letters per line, and one page for every 20 lines.
